This vault has seen many incidents throughout the years surviving many attacks including a incendiary bomb blast during the War, Medieval merchants house History: Built in the 13 th century as a Merchants house with an under dwelling for storing wine, the building has seen many happy and tragic times throughout the years. It has seen many changes from a conversion into three cottages, then back to its original form and changing again to a personal dwelling and a beer house (Pub) and a house of ill repute (Brothel). Largely intact, the original features were discovered by a bomb blast which damaged the building but revealing its true identity and significance. Southampton Medieval vaults history: Hidden around Southampton are various different vaults, these vaults have been used throughout the years for various uses, from wine and coal cellars, smuggling illicit goods, prisons and air raid shelters.
